Welcome
on site by YOUR STEWARD: Lee Brooks. Welcome to Newstead Abbey, a beautiful historic house set in a glorious landscape of gardens and parkland within the heart of Nottinghamshire, England. Founded as a monastic house in the late twelfth century, Newstead became the seat of the Byron family in 1540. The Abbey's most famous owner, the poet Lord Byron, sold the property in 1818 to his friend Colonel Thomas Wildman. Newstead Abbey remained a private country house until 1931, when it was presented to the Nottingham Corporation for the public to enjoy. Upon entering the grounds you MUST keep left at the barriers. During normal opening hour’s entry to the grounds are controlled by a manned ticket booth. Just show your membership card to the attendant. After 4.30pm entry & exit is controlled by electric gates. Exit is controlled by a sensor which automatically opens the gates as you approach. However after 4.30pm entry can only be obtained by entering the correct 5 digit code on the keypad located on the barrier. This code is changed regularly, so those members who will be arriving after 4.30pm must ring the Steward on 07815579069 in order to obtain the code. |
